AI-generated comedians are stealing jokes from real stand-ups, with one video copying a comedian's bit verbatim, including filler words, according to WIRED.

Comedian Julia Jasunas discovered her joke was copied by an AI-generated comedian named Aylen Skye, who appeared to be a fake with a positive comments section and no real social media presence. The video was of a purported stand-up comic named Aylen Skye, a buxom blond with leonine cheekbones and 250,000 Instagram followers.

The website Skye advertised redirected to NSFW content on Fanvue, a subscription-based OnlyFans competitor that markets itself as the “No1 AI monetisation platform for creators.” Jasunas reported the video to Meta, but the platform did not consider it a violation of community guidelines because Skye wasn’t impersonating her.

"You look at any female comic’s comments section and you’ll see all these men berating her, objectifying her body, saying she’s not funny or the joke is bad," said Jasunas. But with Skye, all of the comments were positive. "That’s how I knew she was fake," she deadpans.

The issue is not isolated to Jasunas, as WIRED has identified eight comics whose videos have been replicated by AI-generated women. These accounts often post flirty, clearly AI-generated late-night TV show interviews and occasionally “edgy” racist or transphobic jokes catering to the MAGA crowd.

Instagram’s community guidelines prohibit impersonation but not copying content, especially if it isn’t copyrighted. Some accounts are labeled as AI-generated, but others are not or their videos are inconsistently labeled. Meta’s policies have not stopped the spread of AI-generated content that is stealing from real creators.
