The song’s genre shift to synth-pop and its lyrical style have fueled speculation about its creation method. According to Medasin, a music producer, the song’s sound and lyrics align too closely with Treblo-generated tracks to be coincidental. He demonstrated how using Treblo with tags like '80s synthwave' and prompts about a 'rapper lifestyle' produced similar results to 'Rubberz.'
Treblo cofounder Ryan Tremblay confirmed the app’s new detector flags both 'Rubberz' and Tyga’s new project as likely AI-generated. The tool, now available on Treblo’s website, has a false positive rate under one in 10,000. The company had not previously known about 'Rubberz' until it reached the Hot 100. Medasin’s claims, which initially went unnoticed, gained traction after Treblo released its detection tool, effectively confirming the AI-generated nature of the songs.
Fenix and his producer, Purps on the Beat, have denied using AI, but their explanations have not convinced critics. A video showing what Fenix claimed was the original project file for 'Rubberz' was later deleted, raising further questions. Treblo’s detector, which is open-source, now allows listeners to verify if a song was made with the app. The situation highlights the growing role of AI in music creation and the challenges of verifying authenticity in an increasingly digital landscape.
