Alta Daily, a fashion app launched in 2025, uses Meta’s Segment Anything Model (SAM) to digitize users’ wardrobes and recommend outfits. The app allows users to photograph their clothes and create a digital closet, enabling them to visualize outfits on their personal Alta avatar. According to Alta’s Head of Engineering Joon Kim, the app segments a month’s worth of outfits on his avatar using SAM 3. The Segment Anything Model has been instrumental in processing millions of images, providing a clean, editorial-style interface for digital styling. Alta Daily’s founder and CEO, Jenny Wang, noted that the model’s ability to handle complex segmentation tasks, such as distinguishing between a white sneaker on a white wall or a blue sweater on a wrinkled blanket, was a major technical challenge. The team tested various segmentation models across eight product categories, including sunglasses and shoes, and found that SAM consistently delivered the best results. This capability has allowed the app to process more than 20 million images without incurring high costs, enabling the company to focus on user experience. The app has gained a global user base in the United States, France, Germany, Mexico, and the Netherlands. Looking ahead, the Alta team is exploring Meta’s SAM 3D models to enhance user interaction with their digital avatars. Wang emphasized the importance of experimenting with new models and maintaining a large fashion-specific dataset for continuous evaluation. *Source: [metaai](https://ai.meta.com/blog/alta-daily-fashion-app-segment-anything/)*
