Amazon, Nvidia, and AMD have invested $310 million in AI startup Odyssey ML, which builds 3D world models. The round values Odyssey at $1.45 billion. The investment includes contributions from other backers such as IQT, GV, Jeff Dean, and Elad Gil. Odyssey uses AWS as its preferred cloud provider and runs on Amazon's Trainium chips. Founders Oliver Cameron and Jeff Hawke have experience in autonomous vehicles. Cameron stated the models understand physics, body language, and dynamics, which language models cannot capture. The 55-person team operates from London, Zurich, and Palo Alto.

World models are positioned as the next significant investment area after pure language models. These models aim to simulate the physical world, including physics, dynamics, and spatial relationships. Meta AI chief Yann LeCun has argued that language models alone will not achieve human-level intelligence. Google Deepmind CEO Demis Hassabis views world models as a key step toward general AI. AI pioneer Fei-Fei Li is also pursuing this idea through her startup World Labs.
