Anthropic released the Cyber Mission on October 8, 2026, saying it supports defenders with tools, research, and resources to secure their software and systems. It is the company's first major cybersecurity initiative since its launch in 2022.
Anthropic reported the Cyber Mission includes the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program (CIDP) and the OSS Scanner, targeting vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure and open-source software. Availability begins immediately, initially for cybersecurity providers and open-source developers.
"Frontier models can be misused to exploit vulnerabilities and conduct cyber operations," said Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei. The company is addressing the growing threat of AI-driven cyberattacks by combining its models with threat research and on-site engineers.
The announcement follows the completion of Project Glasswing, which uncovered many vulnerabilities but did not achieve a sufficient reduction in cyber risk. Anthropic is expanding its Cyber Verification Program to give more defenders access to its most capable models.
Anthropic did not say how many vulnerabilities will be addressed initially, and the company raised concerns about the difficulty of verifying, prioritizing, and fixing security findings. The Cyber Mission will expand to new areas to help secure the world.
