Apple released its annual update on the App Store ecosystem ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference, highlighting the platform's financial impact on developers. The company stated that the App Store facilitated over $1.4 trillion in billings and sales in 2025, a rise from $1.3 trillion in 2024. This figure encompasses all business transactions through apps, emphasizing the App Store's role in creating financial opportunities for developers beyond in-app purchase commissions. Apple noted that 90% of the $1.4 trillion involved transactions where developers did not pay any commissions.
The 2025 total included $1.1 trillion in sales of physical goods and services and $149 billion in billings and sales for digital goods. The latter is subject to a commission rate of 15% to 30%, depending on the transaction type and business size, higher than the $131 billion reported in 2024. Additionally, Apple reported $151 billion in in-app ad revenue for 2025, up from $150 billion in 2024. The App Store also saw over 850 million average weekly users across 175 countries and regions in 2025.
Apple highlighted the growth of AI apps, noting that 40 of the top 100 apps in 2025 had consumer-facing AI capabilities, which saw stronger billing growth. The company is also expected to announce plans for AI agents on the App Store at WWDC, along with a potential Siri revamp and deeper AI integration into its operating systems. Apple also pointed to the App Store's growth in China, where billings and sales more than doubled in the last six years, while they tripled in the U.S. and Europe. Most of this growth is attributed to physical goods and services like retail, grocery delivery, ride-hailing, and travel.
