Apple kicked off its WWDC 2026 event with a focus on AI, Siri, and iOS 27, aiming to address user frustrations with its software. The event marked CEO Tim Cook’s final WWDC as he steps down in September, handing over leadership to John Ternus. Apple emphasized privacy in its AI approach, with Craig Federighi stating, “data is only used to execute your request.”

The company unveiled an updated Siri AI, powered by Google Gemini, which will be available in a standalone app and across existing applications. It also introduced Apple Intelligence, which includes features like tab management for Safari, AI-powered reply suggestions for Messages, and cross-app context awareness. Apple collaborated with Google’s Gemini models to develop its new Foundation Models, enhancing its integrated AI experiences.

Apple also announced that iOS 27 will be available to more users than any previous iOS release, supporting devices from the iPhone 11 onward. The update includes performance improvements such as 70% faster photo loading and 80% faster AirDrop transfers. Additionally, new parental controls and a redesigned search function were highlighted, with Apple promising a rebuilt search foundation for Spotlight, Photos, and Mail.
