Cerebras Systems CEO and co-founder Andrew Feldman criticized the AI doomsday narrative, arguing it undermines the industry's progress. At TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, Feldman quipped that some AI leaders should be restricted from public discourse due to the spread of negativity around AI dangers.
Feldman emphasized that AI's potential to improve lives, such as eliminating cancer, should be highlighted more than its risks. He noted that Cerebras serves major clients like OpenAI, Block, and GSK, underscoring the company's stake in AI's success.
"I don’t think there are powerful technologies that don’t come with the challenge of ‘what happens when powerful technologies are in the hands of bad people?’" Feldman said. He called for thoughtful regulation and reasonable oversight of AI technologies.
The CEO also pointed to the data center industry's poor community engagement as a reason for the backlash against AI. He contrasted this with countries like Brazil and Sweden, where data center development is more community-focused.
Feldman was not worried that efficiency gains would reduce demand for his chips or competitors' products. He argued that improved hardware and models must work together to make meaningful progress.
Cerebras did not comment on the specific risks of AI or the likelihood of AI-related harm, and the company remains focused on advancing AI technologies. The CEO believes the industry must balance innovation with responsible regulation.
