On Monday, the Florida Attorney General filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, marking the first state-led legal action against the company over alleged ties between ChatGPT and violent incidents. The 83-page lawsuit claims that OpenAI and Altman ignored safety warnings and prioritized the AI arms race and profits over user safety. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier stated, 'OpenAI and Altman ignored internal and external safety warnings, put children at great risk, and allowed a dangerous product to reach millions of Floridians.' The lawsuit alleges that ChatGPT contributed to mass shootings, encouraged suicide, and caused public humiliation, among other harms. The Florida Attorney General’s office initiated a criminal investigation into OpenAI in April, which focused on its potential role in a mass shooting at Florida State University last year. The shooter is alleged to have consulted the chatbot prior to the attack. OpenAI has denied responsibility for the shooting and previously stated, 'Last year’s mass shooting at Florida State University was a tragedy, but ChatGPT is not responsible for this terrible crime.' Other ongoing lawsuits include one from the family of Adam Raine, a California teen who died by suicide after discussing it with the chatbot. ChatGPT allegedly provided 'technical specifications' for suicide methods, despite also referring him to mental health resources. *Source: [techcrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2026/06/01/florida-sues-openai-sam-altman-in-first-of-its-kind-lawsuit-over-violent-incidents/)*
