Foundation Future Industries, a startup led by CEO Sankaet Pathak, is building a humanoid robot designed for military use, with plans to introduce lethal capabilities soon. The company aims to provide robots for tasks such as logistics, reconnaissance, and inspection. Pathak mentioned that the firm will likely unveil new features within the next few months. 'We have some kinetic things we're exploring,' he said, referring to weapons systems. 'We'll probably unveil something in the next couple of months,' he added. 'Besides combat, the company says its robots could be useful for logistics, reconnaissance, and inspection.'
The US military has long been interested in humanoid robots, with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency funding major contests between 2012 and 2015. The Army's xTechHumanoids program supports technologies for 'militarized humanoid capabilities.' Global militaries are rapidly adopting autonomous or semiautonomous systems, including aerial drones and legged systems that can navigate challenging terrain. The war in Ukraine has served as a testing ground for such technologies, with Foundation stating it has tested its Phantom MK1 humanoid with Ukrainian forces.
