Google Deepmind released four Gemini 4 Argon agents on October 18, 2026, saying they beat Minecraft without any human help. It is the company's first agentic AI milestone since the release of Gemini 4.

The agents completed the game in 27 hours and 14 minutes, writing 2,783 JavaScript programs and exchanging 229 chat messages. That compares with previous AI systems that required purpose-built training just a few years ago.

The agents operated on Google's Gemini 4 Argon platform and targeted complex video game environments. Availability begins in 2027, initially for research and development purposes.

"The agents split up tasks on their own, warned each other about threats, and recovered items from dead teammates," said Matthias Bastian, a researcher at Google Deepmind. The team noted the agents also logged mistakes in a shared memory.

The announcement follows a trend of agentic AI models beating video games that used to require custom AI systems. The source itself frames the significance as a demonstration of autonomous problem-solving in dynamic environments.

Google Deepmind did not say how the agents will be used beyond research, and the open question is whether such models can be applied to real-world challenges. The source says the team will continue exploring agentic AI capabilities.
