Google has made Gemini Spark available on macOS, enhancing its capabilities as a desktop AI assistant. The company announced the update on Wednesday, integrating real-time topic tracking and expanded app connectivity. Users can now sync with Google Tasks and Keep, addressing previous limitations. This update positions Gemini Spark to better compete with other desktop AI agents like Claude Desktop and Microsoft’s Copilot. The macOS launch enables the assistant to work with local files and handle remote tasks in the future. Google also mentioned that multi-step task assignments via mobile are coming soon. For now, users can leverage Spark to organize files or generate Google Workspace documents from existing files on their computers. For example, Spark can convert invoices into budgeting worksheets. Gemini Spark for macOS (beta) is currently available only to Google AI Ultra rs in the U.S.
The update includes support for third-party apps such as Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals. These integrations allow Spark to perform various tasks, including reserving tables, ordering groceries, designing flyers, and booking apartment tours. Additionally, Gemini Spark can now track topics and react to events in real time, improving its performance for tasks involving sports scores, stock movements, or breaking news. The assistant will also monitor areas like social media, blogs, online shopping, and weather. Google is also rolling out support for the custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling users to connect their preferred apps directly to Spark for a more personalized assistant.
Google previously highlighted the lack of integration with Google Keep as a major limitation during early tests. The addition of support for Tasks and Keep addresses this issue, placing notes in appropriate apps rather than overcomplicating tasks like creating a vacation packing list. Image Credits: Google.
