Google is rolling out a major update to its NotebookLM tool, integrating the latest Gemini 3.5 model and Antigravity support to enhance its capabilities. The update includes better file type handling and streamlined web source integration, allowing users to analyze documents and webpages more effectively. According to Google, the new version of NotebookLM outperforms its previous iteration in all core evaluation dimensions, with an average win rate of 65 percent against the older model. The improvements are part of a broader effort to make NotebookLM more versatile and efficient for research and analysis tasks.
The upgrade introduces a 'cloud computer' feature that enables NotebookLM to leverage Antigravity for writing and running code tailored to users' research goals. This update also expands the tool’s output beyond text, allowing it to generate documents in various formats such as PDFs, slides, and structured data files. Users can now create and edit these files directly within the app, with additional file types planned for future updates. Google has also enhanced the app’s ability to import web sources, presenting a 'research report' that users can select to include as sources for their notebooks.
NotebookLM, launched in 2023, has been distinguished by its reliance on user-provided sources for analysis. This update aims to streamline that process by automatically finding relevant sources for users. The new features are initially available to AI Ultra rs and Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access, with broader availability expected soon.
