Google announced on Thursday that users can now link and interact with select apps like Instacart, Canva, and YouTube within AI Mode, its conversational search experience. The update allows users to perform tasks such as creating a grocery list for a barbecue and adding items directly to an Instacart cart, or generating design ideas for a flyer using Canva. Google also mentioned the ability to curate a playlist for a party and save it to YouTube Music through AI Mode. The feature is currently available in the U.S. and is part of an ongoing effort to expand AI Mode’s capabilities.

The new update builds on Google’s earlier launch at Google I/O, which enabled users to connect third-party apps to Gemini for faster task completion. Supported apps include Canva, OpenTable, Spark, and Instacart, among others. Since its launch in early 2025, AI Mode has been continuously enhanced with features such as checking store inventory and exploring the web alongside AI Mode. Recently, Google introduced 'Personal Intelligence,' allowing AI Mode to access Gmail and Google Photos for more tailored responses.

Google said it is working with a range of partners and plans to launch support for more apps soon. The move is intended to help users with planning and shopping tasks while also competing with rivals like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, both of which support app integrations.
