Meta has launched its first AI image model, Muse Image, as part of its effort to compete in the AI image generation space. The model is deeply integrated into the Instagram app, enabling users to generate AI images using public photos from other profiles. The feature is automatically enabled for public Instagram accounts, allowing anyone to tag a username in a prompt and use Meta AI to create images based on that person's photos.

Users who want to prevent their Instagram content from being used in AI-generated images can adjust their settings. By navigating to the Sharing and reuse tab in the app, they can toggle off the option that allows others to use their content with Meta's AI features. However, existing AI-generated images created with their content will not be removed. The company's help center also notes that users will not receive notifications when someone uses their content to create AI-generated images, raising concerns about privacy and consent.

According to the source, Meta's announcement highlights the ease with which users can generate personalized visuals using real people's photos. The company's help page states that users may be able to create content with their Instagram content using AI features at Meta if their account is public and on default settings. A previously archived version of this page from 2025 does not include similar AI-focused language.
