Netflix has integrated AI into approximately 300 productions, primarily in post-production stages, according to co-CEO Ted Sarandos. During the company's latest earnings call, Sarandos highlighted how AI accelerates the entire production pipeline, from concept development to final delivery. The technology enables the expansion of crowd scenes and historical battle sequences that would have been trimmed due to budget or time constraints without AI assistance. The docuseries 'The American Experiment' features 17 minutes of AI-assisted footage, produced twice as fast at half the cost, according to Sarandos. The savings, he noted, are likely redirected toward creating more content rather than reducing Netflix's $20 billion budget. Sarandos emphasized that AI enhances creative tools for artists, without replacing their role in producing high-quality content. 'It takes great artists to make something great, and AI is not changing that. AI will give creatives better tools to bring their visions to life,' he said. Beyond its Interpositive tool, Netflix also uses Eyeline and operates its own animation lab. The company's rapid adoption of AI reflects the technology's swift expansion within the entertainment industry, despite ongoing creative pushback. ByteDance's video model Seedance has faced official criticism, but Simpsons producer Joel Kuwahara noted that many studios use it discreetly behind the scenes. Kuwahara described the industry's approach as following a 'don't ask, don't tell' strategy.
