At this year’s London Tech Week, NVIDIA and its U.K. partners demonstrated how the nation’s commitment to sovereign AI is driving innovation across sectors. The U.K. has seen a doubling in AI cloud providers planning to deploy infrastructure on U.K. soil over the past year, with companies like Nebius and BT expanding their capabilities using NVIDIA AI infrastructure. These deployments are expected to reach 65 megawatts when fully operational by 2027, according to NVIDIA.
Central to this effort is Isambard-AI, the U.K.’s most powerful computer, built on 5,400 NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips and powered entirely by zero-carbon electricity. This supercomputer supports cutting-edge AI research and is being used by homegrown companies like Ineffable Intelligence and four NVIDIA Inception startups. The U.K. government’s Sovereign AI Fund is backing these initiatives, providing the infrastructure needed to scale AI ambitions.
The progress reflects a broader shift in U.K. AI leadership, with NVIDIA’s £2 billion investment in the startup ecosystem and collaboration with venture capital firms. The NVIDIA Inception program has seen a 50% increase in U.K. membership, while AI-native companies like Doubleword and PolyAI are scaling globally from U.K. roots. These efforts are part of a larger push to turn policy into deployment roadmaps through the Sovereign AI Forum and partnerships with institutions like the U.K. Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
