OpenAI released 372 AI-generated mathematical results on GitHub, saying it aims to advance open problems in mathematics and computer science. It is the company's first major release of AI-produced mathematical proofs since its initial experiments with internal models.

OpenAI reported 372 new mathematical results, measured as proofs or substantial progress toward open problems. That compares with previous internal experiments that yielded fewer results.

The proofs are built on an internal frontier model and target solving or advancing open problems in mathematics, including improvements to algorithms and progress on the Riemann hypothesis. Availability begins with public access via GitHub, initially for the academic community.

"Nearly every result came from a single prompt to a single AI agent," said Matthias Bastian, the article's author. The model's results are intended to push the boundary of human knowledge, though the mathematical community is split on their significance.

The announcement follows discussions with the Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study. OpenAI said it is working to improve the quality of its citations and presentation, and plans to fund workshops focused on understanding AI-produced results.

OpenAI did not say whether the results are fully verified or whether they meet academic standards, and the math community remains divided on what mass-produced proofs actually mean. The company is betting that its results will drive new insights, but whether the community agrees remains an open question.
