Riverside, a video and podcast recording toolmaker, has expanded its offerings by enabling users to create and publish newsletters directly from its platform. The move aims to help creators leverage existing spoken content into written formats with minimal effort, according to the company. Riverside is not targeting established newsletter platforms like Substack or Beehiiv but is instead focusing on its existing userbase, which already produces rich, information-dense content through its recording tools. The update allows users to convert their videos and podcasts into newsletter-ready content using AI, or to create newsletters from scratch. The company also introduced new AI features, such as drafting a first cut of a recording and generating hooks for social media platforms. These enhancements are part of a broader trend among platforms seeking to diversify their revenue streams through alternative publishing avenues.

Riverside’s co-founder and CEO, Nadav Keyson, explained that the goal is to reduce the friction for creators who prefer speaking over writing. He noted that the ideas are already present in the conversations, and the AI tool helps transform that content into newsletter-ready material. The company is also enhancing its recording suite to support multi-camera setups and remote guest additions. These updates reflect Riverside’s strategy to integrate more AI-driven capabilities into its platform, making content creation more efficient for its users.

Riverside, which has raised over $60 million in funding, is joining a growing list of platforms exploring alternative publishing methods. For example, Substack launched a built-in recording studio in March, and Beehiiv entered the podcasting space in April. Additionally, Mastodon announced in June that it would allow users to publish posts as newsletters. These developments highlight the increasing convergence between different content creation and distribution formats.
