Solos announced two new smart glasses, the audio-only AirGo A6 and the camera-enabled Solos AirGo V2. The latter, priced at $299, offers features similar to Meta’s smart glasses, including photo and video capture, music playback, and an AI-powered assistant. The glasses can be fitted with prescription lenses and provide a 10- to 12-hour battery life. The AirGo V2 can also be paired with a Privacy Kit, a $79 set of clip-on accessories that allow users to block the camera and switch to audio-only mode.
The Privacy Kit includes a clip-on privacy shield that physically blocks the camera from recording, as well as a polarized lens. However, critics argue that selling the privacy shield as a separate accessory may not effectively address privacy concerns. Users must clip on and off the shield each time they want to disable the camera, which could deter adoption. Additionally, there is no mechanism to prevent malicious actors from removing the shield during interactions, such as after entering an event that prohibits camera use.
Solos’ first camera-enabled glasses, the Solos AirGo Vision, launched in 2024 and received mixed reviews, with WIRED placing them in the “Don’t Bother” category due to poor media capture quality and other issues. Meta remains the dominant player in the smart glasses market, but companies like Solos are trying to carve out a niche with privacy-focused designs. Solos’ reemphasis on privacy follows criticism of Meta’s glasses, which faced backlash after the company added face recognition code without public disclosure.
