SpaceXAI announced the release of Grok 4.5, its first model since the company went public several weeks ago. The model is designed to handle a range of typical AI tasks, including coding, app-building, office work, research, and writing, according to a blog post published Wednesday. The company emphasized that Grok 4.5 is more efficient, with "twice greater token efficiency" than other leading models, which could provide a significant advantage in reducing costs for AI users. The cost of tokens has been a growing concern for AI consumers, making efficiency a key factor in the model’s competitiveness. SpaceXAI released benchmark metrics that suggest Grok 4.5 is competitive with top models from its competitors, though slightly below best-in-class performance. The model’s cost is $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, which is considered quite competitive if the capabilities match the company’s claims. In a post on X, Elon Musk compared Grok 4.5 to Anthropic’s Opus, describing it as an "Opus-class model, but faster, more token-efficient and lower cost." Musk added that internally, the company assesses Grok 4.5 as roughly comparable to Opus 4.7 but much faster. The combination of capability, speed, and cost is what makes the model competitive, according to SpaceXAI.
