Superhuman, the email client known for its AI-driven productivity tools, has launched an updated version of its auto-draft feature. The tool identifies important emails and generates draft replies that sound less robotic, reducing the need for extensive edits. According to the company's co-founder, Rahul Vohra, the feature has shown promise, with 40% of auto-generated drafts being sent within one day, and 60% of those sent without any manual editing. The update aims to streamline email responses by adapting to users' tone and previous conversation patterns, offering multiple variations to choose from. The feature also includes the ability to personalize emails through the app's settings, allowing users to add details about themselves and their roles. This development comes as Superhuman continues to integrate advanced AI models into its platform, enhancing its capabilities for users who manage high volumes of email.
The new auto-draft feature uses a combination of models from Anthropic and OpenAI to provide more context and intelligence in its responses. Vohra noted that earlier versions of the feature, such as Instant replies, relied on older models like GPT-3.5, which had limitations in context and intelligence. The current implementation, however, leverages a mix of frontier models to improve the quality and relevance of the generated drafts. Despite its improvements, the feature is not without flaws, as it occasionally suggested meeting times that were inconvenient for the user. However, the system learns from user interactions, adjusting its responses based on past behavior. For instance, after a previous issue with a midnight meeting suggestion, the app began generating drafts that indicated the timing was not suitable for the user.
Superhuman's co-founder, Rahul Vohra, emphasized that the feature is still in development and continues to evolve based on user feedback. The company has also announced plans to expand its AI capabilities with an assistant called Superhuman Go, which will span multiple platforms while maintaining context across different apps. The feature is part of Superhuman's ongoing efforts to enhance productivity for users who manage a high volume of email, offering a more efficient way to respond to messages without the need for lengthy typing. The tool is available to users who have access to the beta version of the app.
