To address these challenges, Vercel has developed tools like Eve and Vercel Sandbox. Eve allows for the natural language description of agents’ instructions and skills, while Vercel Sandbox provides a secure environment where agents can operate with controlled data access. Rauch emphasized the importance of data control, noting that AI tools like coding agents could inadvertently expose sensitive information if not properly managed. He cited an example involving Airbus, where a developer tool could potentially leak decades of proprietary C++ code if not secured. These tools are part of Vercel’s broader strategy to enable companies to leverage agents without compromising data security.
Rauch also discussed the evolving relationship between platform companies and AI labs, noting that clients are now more open to using multiple models and platforms. He highlighted the growing popularity of Gemini and open models like DeepSeek and GLM-5.2 due to their cost-effectiveness and performance. Rauch also mentioned that Vercel is positioning itself as the 'AWS of this generation,' advocating for open protocols and a modular approach to AI development. This shift reflects a broader industry trend toward decoupling models from agents, allowing for greater flexibility and innovation in AI applications.
