AMD released hipCIM 26.06 on October 20, 2026, saying it accelerates whole-slide image (WSI) I/O on AMD Instinct™ GPUs. It is the company's first software update in the AI/ML and computer vision category since the ROCm™ 10.0 launch.
AMD reported a 10× speed boost for hipCIM's GPU path over OpenSlide on AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs, measured on the same node. That compares with a 7–11× CPU path speedup over OpenSlide on the same hardware.
hipCIM 26.06 is built on ROCm 10.0 and targets digital pathology and computer vision workloads. Availability begins with ROCm 10.0, initially for developers and data scientists using AMD Instinct GPUs.
"Every whole-slide image tells a story in pixels," said Soumitra Chatterjee, AMD's software tools lead. "hipCIM ensures that story is read efficiently and accurately on AMD Instinct GPUs."
The announcement follows the ROCm™ 10.0 launch, which AMD said is the software foundation for AMD Instinct MI355X. hipCIM 26.06 expands OME-TIFF format support from 0.8% to 90.3%.
AMD did not say how hipCIM will perform on larger image tiles, and raised the question of whether GPU decode accuracy can match CPU results on tiled-TIFF paths. The company said work continues to characterize GPU decode accuracy on the tiled-TIFF path.
