AMD released rocOpt on October 20, 2026, saying it provides GPU-accelerated decision optimization for large-scale linear programming (LP), mixed-integer linear programming (MILP), quadratic programming (QP), and vehicle routing problems. It is the company's first software update in the artificial intelligence category since the release of ROCm 7.2.3.

AMD reported rocOpt solves large-scale LP, MILP, QP, and vehicle routing problems on AMD Instinct GPUs using ROCm 7.2.3. That compares with previous CPU-based solvers, which struggled with runtime limitations for such workloads.

rocOpt is built on the AMD ROCm platform and targets applications in logistics, energy dispatch, portfolio optimization, and supply-chain design. Availability begins with early access for users on MI300X and MI355X GPUs.

"Decision optimization is the hidden engine behind complex operational decisions," said Anuya Welling, AMD's lead AI researcher. rocOpt brings GPU acceleration for this class of work to AMD Instinct GPUs, integrating with existing ROCm AI/ML pipelines.

The announcement follows AMD's focus on expanding GPU capabilities for AI and analytics. AMD emphasized the significance of GPU acceleration in solving massive-scale optimization problems efficiently.

AMD did not say how the Barrier (interior-point) LP solver will be implemented, and noted the current limitation of sparse direct-solver support. The company mentioned expanding this support represents an opportunity for future ROCm development.
