Anthropic announced a new initiative to support scientists by offering 10,000 free and discounted Claude subscriptions globally. The company is expanding its AI for Science program to provide researchers with access to its AI tools for one year. The new Claude team plan for scientists allows for standard free seats and premium seats with 5x usage limits at $15 per month. The initiative aims to accelerate scientific discovery by giving researchers greater access to Claude’s capabilities. The company also plans to extend the program beyond the initial 10,000 seats in the coming months.
The expansion includes offering credits for researchers in scientific fields beyond biology, such as those working on compute-intensive projects like the Riemann zeta function and protein design. By combining subscriptions, credits, and products like Claude Science, Anthropic aims to enhance scientific research and discovery. The AI for Science program will also allow researchers to apply for up to $50,000 in credits per project if their usage exceeds standard or premium plans.
Researchers in biology and chemistry will still be limited to Opus-class models, while Claude Fable models will continue to block professional biology and drug development queries due to dual-use risks. Anthropic is collaborating with the US government to establish an access program for life sciences professionals to use Mythos-class models for research and development.
