AWS released new AI tools and models in September 2026, enhancing enterprise AI capabilities with OpenAI models and Moonshot AI's Kimi K3. It is the company's first major AI update since the launch of Amazon Bedrock AgentCore in 2025.
AWS reported the new models include OpenAI's Astra, Sol, and Luna, with Kimi K3 reaching 2.8 trillion parameters, the first open model to achieve this. That compares with previous models that had fewer parameters and smaller context windows.
The new tools are built on AWS's cloud infrastructure and target enterprise workflows, including coding, research, and data processing. Availability begins in public preview, initially for developers and AI builders.
"Kimi K3 is our most capable model and the first open model to reach 2.8 trillion parameters," said Moonshot AI's CEO. The model helps build smarter apps 2.5x faster at lower cost than previous versions.
The announcement follows AWS's focus on expanding AI model choices and improving enterprise agent capabilities. AWS said the updates strengthen the foundations for building secure, efficient AI applications.
AWS did not say how the models will perform on specific benchmarks, and it raised questions about how enterprises will balance cost, latency, and model capabilities. The company said it will continue to update its AI offerings based on customer feedback.
