Amazon announced Amazon Bedrock AgentCore payments, a platform that enables AI agents to autonomously pay for services on demand. It is the company's first major update to its AI agent infrastructure since the launch of Amazon Bedrock in 2023.
Amazon Bedrock AgentCore payments handles the payment protocol, connects to a wallet, signs the transaction, and enforces spending limits. It reported that the Incarna team cut the work of adding x402 payment support from months to days, and put an end-to-end pay-per-inference flow into production.
The service is built on the x402 payment protocol and targets AI agents that need to make frequent, low-value transactions. Availability begins with BlockRun and Incarna, initially for developers and businesses using Amazon Bedrock.
"The next generation of AI agents shouldn't have to choose between better performance and sustainable economics," said Vicky Fu, Founder, BlockRun. BlockRun's open source router gives developers full control over their own model set, while continuously benefiting from BlockRun's ongoing benchmark-driven routing improvements—delivering higher task success rates at lower token cost.
The announcement follows the release of BlockRun's open source router, which Amazon said is a key step in enabling scalable and secure AI agent interactions.
Amazon did not say how widespread the adoption of AgentCore payments will be, and raised the question of how to balance agent autonomy with spending controls. The company said it will continue to refine the service based on feedback from early adopters.
