Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI model, has signed a 45-billion-dollar compute deal with British cloud startup Nscale, according to Bloomberg. The agreement, which will span six years, involves Anthropic renting compute capacity from a data center in West Virginia. The deal is part of Anthropic's efforts to secure resources ahead of its planned IPO this fall. The company is also entering into compute agreements with Amazon and SpaceX, and has committed to leasing Google's AI chips for more than 150 billion dollars.
Anthropic will begin using 460 megawatts of Nvidia's Vera Rubin chip generation in West Virginia starting late next year, according to two people familiar with the matter. Nscale, which is preparing its own IPO, raised 2 billion dollars in March at a valuation of 14.6 billion dollars, led by Norwegian energy company Aker. The company's planned 1.35-gigawatt data center in Mason County is expected to cost 69 billion dollars, according to Nscale, and is facing pushback from local residents.
