AWS released AWS Agent Registry, a managed service for discovering and cataloging Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, agents, and skills, on November 2024. It is the company's first major update to its machine learning tools since the launch of Amazon Bedrock in 2023.

AWS Agent Registry allows orchestrators to search for and dynamically discover tools and agents at runtime, improving scalability in enterprise systems with hundreds of internal APIs. This capability reduces the need for hardcoding endpoints, which can become unmanageable as the number of tools grows.

The service is built on AWS's existing infrastructure and targets enterprise software as a service (SaaS) engagements where teams expose large internal API surfaces. Availability begins in early 2025, initially for AWS customers and partners.

"Runtime discovery enables orchestrators to search for and use capabilities through semantic search without prior code changes," said the AWS blog. This approach simplifies integration and allows teams to ship new capabilities independently.

The announcement follows AWS's broader push to enhance its machine learning platform with tools for enterprise use. AWS did not specify the exact number of tools that can be discovered through the registry, and it remains unclear how the service will scale with increasing API surfaces.
