AWS released an updated sign-in experience for Amazon SageMaker Studio on April 2, 2024, allowing new users to access the platform without creating a full AWS account. It is the company's first major software update since improving environment creation time to 20 seconds earlier this year.

AWS reported that new customers receive $100 in Free Tier credits, which apply to model customization, training jobs, Studio notebooks, and endpoint deployments. That compares with the previous $100 credit limit, which was unchanged from earlier offerings.

The new experience is built on AWS's updated sign-in and sign-up platform and targets developers and small startup teams looking to deploy models quickly. Availability begins for new AWS accounts, initially for individual developers and small teams.

"You don’t need to complete the advanced AWS account sign-up, verify a phone number, or enter a credit card (for most customers):" said AWS. The new process allows users to start building in SageMaker Studio right away.

The announcement follows the introduction of deep links from Hugging Face to SageMaker Studio workflows. AWS said the changes aim to reduce friction for developers transitioning to its platform.

AWS did not specify the exact criteria for earning the additional $100 in credits, and the Free Tier period ends after 6 months or when credits are exhausted. Users can upgrade to a paid plan at any time by adding payment details.
