Google Labs has introduced Dreambeans, an AI-powered app for iOS and Android that generates daily lifestyle suggestions by analyzing user data from Google services. The app uses Personal Intelligence to pull information from Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and Search History to create a curated list of ideas. These suggestions, which include places to visit, topics to explore, and event insights, are designed to inspire users while limiting the number of stories to 10 to 14 per day. According to Gozde Oznur, the product lead, the app aims to counteract phone addiction by encouraging users to engage with real-life experiences rather than endless digital content. The tool is currently available to U.S.-based Google AI Ultra users and has a waitlist for personal Google account holders. Oznur emphasized that the app’s name is derived from its operation during sleep, with the 'dream' part reflecting the data processing that occurs overnight and the 'beans' symbolizing the morning delivery of inspiration in the form of a concentrated idea. The app is positioned as a tool to help users live more intentionally by offering curated insights based on their digital footprint. The name 'Dreambeans' was inspired by the app’s operation during sleep, with Oznur explaining that the 'dream' part refers to the data processing that occurs overnight, while the 'beans' part represents the morning delivery of inspiration in the form of a concentrated idea. The app is currently only available to U.S.-based Google AI Ultra users and has a waitlist for personal Google account holders. The privacy measures are robust, with users having full control over their data and the ability to delete it at any time. The app’s limited daily suggestions are intended to prevent overconsumption of digital content and promote a more balanced approach to technology use.
