Hugging Face released a five-step curriculum for training agents on October 20, 2026, saying it provides a structured approach to post-training methods for agents. It is the company's first comprehensive guide to agent training since its initial work on reinforcement learning in 2025.

Hugging Face reported the curriculum includes methods with benchmark scores on structured outputs, measured on coding tasks, with a focus on real-world task execution. That compares with earlier work on single-turn reinforcement learning, which lacked multi-turn environment interaction.

The curriculum is built on Hugging Face's training frameworks and targets developers and researchers looking to train agents for complex tasks. Availability begins with the release of the blog series and documentation, initially for the open-source community.

"Post-training refers to the training stages that follow pretraining, such as supervised fine-tuning, distillation and reinforcement learning," said Sergio Paniego, Hugging Face's lead researcher. The curriculum aims to turn pretrained models into agents that can follow instructions and solve specific tasks.

The announcement follows a livestream series on the Hugging Face YouTube channel, which covered the same methods. Hugging Face framed the significance as a step toward more practical and scalable agent training.

Hugging Face did not say how the curriculum will be integrated into existing models, and raised the open question of how to balance training efficiency with the complexity of multi-turn environments. The company said it will continue to update the curriculum with new methods and projects.
