Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced $2 billion in new investments across Europe during his recent tour, according to Bloomberg. The announcement follows a significant $8 billion investment in Europe last year. Huang emphasized the importance of open-weight models to help Europe close its AI gap.

The European investments include stakes in French startups such as Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment, and Entalpic. Huang also promoted open-weight models as a strategy for Europe to enhance its AI capabilities. His remarks reflect a continued push against regulatory slowdowns in the AI sector.

Nvidia is also allocating $250 million in compute resources over five years to UK labs focused on AI agent safety and security. The funds will support institutions like BOLD (Oxford), SOFAIR (UCL), and Imperial College London. Their work encompasses open-ended learning, open-source AI architectures, and robotics safety.

"British AI safety research is getting a slice, too," said UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan. She described the investment as a "vote of confidence in our world-leading strength and expertise in AI research," highlighting the UK's government-backed AI Security Institute.

The announcement comes after a series of strategic moves by Nvidia to strengthen its presence in Europe. Huang's focus on AI safety and open models underscores a broader industry trend toward responsible innovation. The company did not specify the exact timeline for the UK compute allocation, leaving room for further details.
