OpenAI has introduced the Admin plugin for ChatGPT Work and Codex, enabling administrators to manage workspace activity, access, and usage directly within a single conversation. The plugin allows admins to ask questions, explore details, make authorized changes, and confirm results without switching tools or writing complex prompts. This update aims to simplify routine administrative tasks and improve efficiency for growing workspaces.
The Admin plugin provides a range of functionalities, including reviewing adoption and usage across ChatGPT Work and Codex, managing members and groups, controlling access and permissions, and handling usage limits and spending requests. It also supports automation for recurring checks and high-volume requests, reducing manual monitoring and applying policies consistently. For instance, the plugin can route pending usage requests to Slack or Microsoft Teams, where authorized reviewers can act within their existing tools.
OpenAI’s IT team has integrated the Admin plugin into its workflow, allowing the team to ask questions, generate reports, and take action more efficiently while maintaining existing permissions and controls. Kunal Malik, Head of Global IT at OpenAI, noted that the plugin connects questions to supported actions, such as checking permissions, updating groups, or reviewing spending requests, enhancing administrative efficiency without compromising security.
