Stability AI, the company behind the AI image generation model Stable Diffusion, announced it has raised $76 million in Series B funding. The new capital brings the company’s total fundraising to $232 million. The funding round, announced on Tuesday, includes contributions from Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Electronic Arts (EA), among others. The company also received support from AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures. Stability AI CEO Prem Akkaraju described the funding as an affirmation of the company’s vision to empower creators through generative AI. The company plans to use the funds to expand its 'creative production' product suite and professional services arm. Stability AI, founded in 2019, has been focusing on integrating generative AI into entertainment workflows, signing partnerships with Universal Music, EA, and Warner Music in recent months. The company has also faced legal challenges, including a copyright lawsuit from Getty Images in the UK, which it largely won, and a separate lawsuit from its co-founder Cyrus Hodes in 2023.
