What changed

Amazon has announced the general availability of Web Answer on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore. This tool allows agent builders to obtain a synthesized, source-cited answer to a natural-language question with a single tool call, eliminating the need to build and maintain a search, retrieve, synthesize, and citation pipeline.

What this means in practice

With Web Answer, users can send a question to the AgentCore Gateway, which authenticates the call and forwards it to Web Answer. Web Answer then plans its searches, runs several in parallel, reads key pages to check the facts, and writes an answer that ties each claim to its source URL. The Gateway returns the answer and its citations to the agent as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool result. This streamlines the process of getting a cited answer from current web sources.

Limitations and availability

Web Answer is a managed AgentCore Gateway tool that requires an AWS account with AgentCore Gateway access and an AgentCore Gateway in us-east-1 that uses IAM (AWS_IAM) inbound authentication. The tool is available for use with Strands agents, LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or any other MCP-compatible client. The Gateway and Web Answer invocations are billable, and users are advised to delete resources created during setup to avoid charges. The tool is designed with responsible AI safeguards and runs new searches for every question, ensuring up-to-date information.

Source facts for Amazon Announces General Availability of Web Answer on Bedrock AgentCore: With Web Answer, agent builders get a synthesized, source-cited answer to a natural-language question with a single tool call. They no longer build a search, retrieve, synthesize, and citation pipeline themselves. The Web Answer collapses that entire pipeline into one request.
