Agility Robotics released Digit 5 on September 15, 2026, saying it can operate safely next to humans without safety barriers. It is the company's first major update since Digit 4, which passed an independent OSHA safety review on a production line.
Digit 5 lifts up to 22.7 kg, 40 percent more than its predecessor, and has a battery that charges in 9 minutes for 90 minutes of runtime. The company claims this allows more than 20 hours of daily operation, enhancing productivity in warehouses and factories.
The robot is built on Nvidia's Halos safety platform and targets collaborative environments where human-robot interaction is frequent. Availability begins in early 2027, initially for customers in the EU and other global markets.
"It spots people using AI and sensors and, according to the company, stops or steps aside," said Maximilian Schreiner, the company's representative. The robot also gives off visual and audio signals to warn anyone nearby, ensuring a safe working environment.
The announcement follows Digit 4's successful deployment, which logged over 65,000 hours with customers like GXO, Amazon, and Schaeffler. Agility points to orders worth more than $300 million, signaling strong market demand.
Agility did not say how the robot handles complex human interactions, and the company raised the open question of how it will adapt to dynamic environments. The robots are built in Salem, Oregon, in a factory that can produce up to 10,000 units per year.
