Airbnb is leveraging artificial intelligence to accelerate its product development cycle. During its second-quarter earnings call, CEO Brian Chesky highlighted that AI has enabled the company to reduce the time from concept to launch by 60%. He also noted that the number of features and improvements shipped this year has risen by nearly 80% compared to the same six-month period last year. The company has been using AI to write 60% of its code, which has significantly improved its development efficiency.
AI is being integrated into various aspects of Airbnb's operations, including search, sign-up, checkout, and payments. The company has also introduced features to assist hosts with quicker onboarding processes. While consumer-facing AI features have been slower to adopt, the company is now testing AI-powered search functionality. To ensure user comfort, Airbnb is introducing a toggle that allows users to switch to AI search, which provides results in a visual format based on natural language input.
Airbnb has also heavily deployed AI in customer support, launching its AI-powered bot in North America in 2025 and expanding it to over 50 languages this year. Nearly 45% of customer issues handled by the AI agent are resolved without human intervention, leading to a 16% decrease in support costs per booking. The company reported positive financial results for the quarter ended in June, with revenue up 17% year-over-year to $3.6 billion and adjusted EBITDA up 21% to $1.3 billion.
