Amazon Bedrock released Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5, and Claude Haiku 4.5 in India, allowing customers to process data locally within the country. This is the company's first expansion of cross-Region inference capabilities for Claude models in a specific region.
Amazon Bedrock reported cross-Region inference operates through the secure AWS network with end-to-end encryption, ensuring data remains in the source Region. This approach maintains consistent performance under load, which matters most during traffic peaks.
The Claude models are available through the bedrock-runtime endpoint, supporting Anthropic’s Messages API and Amazon Bedrock’s native InvokeModel and Converse APIs. Availability begins with the India regional endpoint, initially for customers needing to process data locally in the desired geography.
"India geographic cross-Region inference keeps inference within India. Requests route only between ap-south-1 and ap-south-2," said Amazon Bedrock. This capability helps maintain throughput and consistent performance under load, which matters most during traffic peaks.
The announcement follows Amazon Bedrock’s previous release of cross-Region inference profiles for global use. Amazon Bedrock did not say how data retention policies apply to models requiring human review, and it raised the question of how customers will monitor usage and costs across Regions.
