Amazon released a multimodal WhatsApp ordering assistant on its blog, saying it unifies customer interactions across text, voice notes, and calls through Amazon Bedrock AgentCore. It is the company's first integration of AgentCore for customer service since its initial launch in 2024.
Amazon reported the solution handles over two billion users through the Meta WhatsApp Business Platform, measured on the scale of customer engagement. That compares with previous messaging solutions that fragmented customer data across multiple channels.
The assistant is built on a combination of Amazon Bedrock AgentCore and Amazon Nova 2, targeting restaurant ordering systems. Availability begins with a cloud deployment through AWS CDK, initially for small and medium-sized businesses.
"A customer who texts today and calls tomorrow is recognized as the same person," said an Amazon spokesperson. The solution ensures cross-channel continuity by using a shared memory system keyed by a hashed customer ID.
The announcement follows Amazon's expansion of its AI-powered customer service tools. Amazon framed the significance as a step toward more seamless customer engagement across digital channels.
Amazon did not say how the solution will handle high-volume traffic, and it raised the question of how the system will scale with increasing user demand. The company plans to provide further details on performance benchmarks in the coming months.
