Amazon released Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases, a new tool that enables users to query insurance claims using natural language, with the ability to cite sources from claim files. It is the company's first major update to its machine learning offerings since the launch of Amazon Bedrock in 2023.
Amazon reported that the tool is built on its Bedrock platform and targets the insurance industry, particularly claims processing. Availability begins in the US West (Oregon) region, initially for developers and enterprises.
"The solution uses Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases to index claim documents from Amazon S3 for retrieval," said the blog post. "Agentic retrieval through AgenticRetrieveStream plans an answer, breaks a multi-part question into sub-queries, and runs one or more retrieval passes."
The announcement follows the release of Amazon Bedrock, which provides a range of foundation models for developers. Amazon said the new tool is part of its ongoing effort to improve enterprise AI solutions.
Amazon did not say when the tool will be available for broader use, and raised the question of how to handle conflicting or superseded records in claim files. The company said the tool will be used in a technical how-to, not a production customer deployment.
