Amazon has introduced a new feature to its shopping AI, Alexa for Shopping, allowing customers to verify if a message they received is genuine or a scam. The company said the AI can definitively confirm the authenticity of a message by checking it against billions of messages sent globally. This capability helps customers determine if a communication originated from Amazon's systems.
The AI analyzes various factors, including sender information, content, timing, and message metadata, to determine if a message is authentic. Amazon emphasized that the system will continue to improve as customers report more suspicious messages, enabling it to detect scams more effectively over time. This update follows previous efforts by Amazon to combat scam-related issues, such as fake order confirmations and job scams.
Amazon also launched an email address, verify.com, earlier this year, allowing users to forward suspicious messages and receive confirmation on their authenticity. The feature reflects a broader shift in Amazon's product strategy, focusing on how Alexa can assist with shopping-related queries and provide proactive help. The assistant can now source personalized deals, create shopping guides, and transcribe handwritten lists, among other functions.
