AMD introduced its Helios AI rack-scale system at its Advancing AI conference in San Francisco, marking the company’s latest move into the competitive AI hardware market. The system is designed to power the computing needs of the world’s largest AI labs, with AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su highlighting its capabilities during the event. AMD is preparing to ship the system later this year, positioning it as a strong contender against Nvidia’s offerings in the space. Su emphasized that Helios is the industry’s highest-performance AI rack, built to train and run the most demanding frontier models at massive scale. The system will be deployed by leading AI companies at gigawatt-scale, according to AMD.

Helios, which was revealed in 2025 and showcased at CES 2026, has already attracted several major customers, including OpenAI, Meta, Oracle, Anthropic, and Microsoft. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced plans to expand Azure infrastructure with Helios, while Anthropic and AMD announced a strategic partnership to deploy up to two gigawatts of GPUs via the new rack system. AMD also introduced its Venice-X CPU, designed for data centers and high-computing workloads, with a launch expected in 2027.

Su discussed the future of the chip industry, stating that by 2030, AI-powered chips will make up a massive portion of the overall computing market. She attributed this growth to the rise of agentic AI, which requires extensive computational resources. AMD expects the AI accelerator market to reach $1.4 trillion by 2030, surpassing the current size of the semiconductor market. Su also noted that GPUs will dominate this market due to the evolving nature of AI algorithms and workloads.
