Anthropic has announced an additional $20 million donation to Public First Action, bringing its total contribution to $40 million. The funds are intended to support the organization’s mission of educating the public about AI and promoting policies that ensure safe and transparent AI development. Public First Action is a non-partisan group that collaborates with Republicans, Democrats, and Independents to establish sensible AI safeguards. The donation aligns with Anthropic’s commitment to fostering public understanding of AI risks and benefits, while ensuring that safety measures are prioritized before widespread deployment of advanced models.

The donation follows Anthropic’s initial $20 million contribution in February 2026, which aimed to support policies that would maintain meaningful AI safeguards, sustain America’s leadership in AI, and demand transparency from developers of powerful AI models. Since then, the urgency for these policies has intensified, particularly as AI models continue to improve rapidly. Earlier this year, the Claude Mythos Preview model identified thousands of high-severity software vulnerabilities, including those in major operating systems and browsers. These findings were shared with a limited set of cyber defenders through Project Glasswing to address potential threats before they could be exploited.

Anthropic has long advocated for transparency from frontier AI companies regarding their models’ capabilities and risk management practices. The company has supported state-level laws requiring greater transparency for AI developers. However, with the rapid advancement of AI capabilities, transparency alone is not enough. Anthropic emphasizes the need for policymakers to propose measures that mitigate risks, as outlined in its Advanced AI Framework, which it claims is the strongest policy proposal from any frontier lab or policymaker to date.
