Anthropic released the Life Sciences Verification Program (LSVP) on September 17, 2026, saying it enables life science professionals to use its models for biology-related tasks. It is the company's first major update to its AI models for the life sciences sector since its general availability of Fable models.
Anthropic reported that the LSVP allows access to its Mythos 5.1, Opus 5, and Sonnet 5 models, which are more permissive for science tasks than its generally-available models. That compares with the previously restricted Fable models that blocked certain biology-related work.
The LSVP is built on Anthropic's AI models and targets tasks in drug discovery, research biology, clinical development, and manufacturing. Availability begins in beta, initially for teams and institutions.
"We’re excited to put Anthropic's frontier models to work across our drug discovery engine," said Xaira. "We believe pairing trusted access with intelligence is the right way to realize AI’s promise in biology."
The announcement follows a recent threat report highlighting increasing misuse attempts on Anthropic's platform. Anthropic said the LSVP is a response to these threats, aiming to protect against access compromise, insider threats, and agent misuse.
Anthropic did not say how many organizations will join the LSVP initially, and it raised the question of how to balance access with safety. The company said it will continue to improve the program and expand access to individual Pro and Max plans over time.
