Anthropic has entered into a $45 billion agreement to rent AI compute from Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company. The deal, first reported by Bloomberg, will supply the AI lab with compute via Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chips, which are described as the cutting edge of chip design. The compute capacity is expected to start powering Anthropic’s services in late 2027, according to a source familiar with the deal. The Vera Rubin system combines six different chips working in concert, and is considered the cutting edge of chip design.
The deal is part of a series of compute partnerships for Anthropic, which has aggressively scaled its compute capacity over the past eight months to better compete with rivals like OpenAI. In addition to the Nscale agreement, Anthropic recently signed a $10 billion deal with Volta, a Norwegian AI cloud startup, and a $5 billion deal with AMD. The company also has a large computing deal with SpaceX, which provides $1.25 billion worth of capacity monthly from two data centers. These partnerships highlight Anthropic’s strategy to secure substantial compute resources to enhance its AI capabilities.
