Bloomberg has shared leaked images of Apple’s upcoming AI upgrade, including a new Siri app intended to compete with AI chatbots like ChatGPT and others. The images, based on sources, reveal how Siri’s enhanced capabilities will be integrated into iOS 27. While the traditional button to activate Siri remains, the response will now appear from the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, the black pill-shaped area at the top of the screen that currently hosts Live Activities. A new mode will allow users to access Siri-powered search through a swipe-down gesture, similar to Spotlight Search, but now powered by an AI model that incorporates Google’s Gemini AI technology. iPhone users will be able to search, launch apps, start messages, check the weather, add calendar appointments, search notes, and trigger app shortcuts, with results displayed in a card-style interface emerging from the Dynamic Island. Apple’s approach mirrors its earlier partnership with Google, where Google became the default search engine on iPhone. Like building a search engine from scratch, developing AI in-house is too costly and complex for Apple, so it is collaborating with external partners for current AI needs while developing its own models, including local AI that runs on devices rather than the cloud. A standalone Siri app is also in the works, designed to directly compete with chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and others.
