AWS released Claude Code on Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud (US), saying it enables AI-assisted development for workloads with regulatory or compliance requirements. It is the company's first major update to Amazon Bedrock since the introduction of FedRAMP Class D certification for models like Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5.
AWS reported that Claude Sonnet 5 holds FedRAMP Class D (formerly High) certification and DoD Impact Level 4 and 5 (IL4/IL5) authorization, measured on compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP and DoD CSP SRG. That compares with previous certifications for earlier model versions.
Claude Code is built on Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud (US) and targets regulated development tasks, including code editing, testing, and integration with tools like AWS CLI and Terraform. Availability begins in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions, initially for government agencies and regulated enterprises.
"Claude Code understands your entire codebase and can work across multiple files and tools to get things done," said Anthropic’s team. This capability allows developers to automate recurring tasks and integrate with CI/CD pipelines through GitHub Actions or GitLab CI/CD.
The announcement follows the release of Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. AWS said the solution helps maintain compliance alignment while speeding up everyday development tasks.
AWS did not say how widely the solution will be adopted beyond regulated environments, and [the open question or limitation the source raises] remains unclear. The company noted that further details on deployment and use cases will be provided in upcoming updates.
