AWS has launched AWS Agent Registry, a tool designed to help organizations manage AI agents, tools, and skills at scale. The service provides a centralized, searchable catalog where teams can register, discover, and govern their resources. This addresses key challenges such as duplicated effort, lack of cross-team discovery, and insufficient governance. According to AWS, the registry streamlines the management of agentic AI systems, enabling teams to find approved capabilities through semantic search in seconds. The solution supports four record types, including agents, skills, and custom descriptors, and operates across two complementary planes: the Governance Plane and the Discovery Plane. The Governance Plane serves as the authoritative store for resources, while the Discovery Plane offers a curated, high-performance view for end users. The registry is now generally available and aims to simplify the management of AI agents in large-scale environments.

AWS Agent Registry is already being used by companies like Sony, Mitsubishi Electric, and Southwest Airlines to streamline operations and reduce redundancy. At Southwest Airlines, the registry has become the backbone of how the company governs agentic AI, providing complete visibility into deployed agents and their ownership. According to Lauren Woods, CIO/EVP of Southwest Airlines, the registry has significantly reduced duplicative development effort and allowed developers to find approved capabilities through semantic search in seconds. Similarly, PepsiCo and Syngenta have adopted the registry to centralize discovery, governance, and reuse of agents, tools, and integrations.
